Electronic Signature Consent

Last updated February 2025

Consent to do business electronically

When you sign a document through BizESign, you agree to use electronic records and electronic signatures in place of paper documents and handwritten signatures. Your electronic signature on a document is intended to have the same legal effect as a handwritten one.

What we record

To support each signature, BizESign records the signer’s name and email, the time each action is taken, and the IP address associated with those actions. Together these form an audit trail attached to the completed document.

Signers verify their email address before signing, which strengthens the identity record associated with the signature.

Hardware and software requirements

To view and sign documents electronically, you need a device with internet access, a current web browser, and a valid email address capable of receiving messages. To keep copies, you need the ability to download and store PDF files.

Withdrawing consent

You are free to decline to sign electronically. If you do not consent to use electronic records and signatures for a particular document, do not complete the signing process and instead contact the person who sent you the document to arrange an alternative.

Copies of your documents

Once a document is completed, signers and senders can download a copy of the signed document along with its audit trail. We recommend saving a copy for your records.

Not legal advice

BizESign provides an electronic signature tool and does not provide legal advice. Whether an electronic signature is appropriate and enforceable for a specific document can depend on your jurisdiction and the type of document. Consult a lawyer if you are unsure.
